Back to the Basics: Learning About Magnetism with the Science Guy

*the embedding was disabled for this video so here is the link* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ak8Bh9Zka50 I know that everyone from our generation will remember watching Bill Nye the Science Guy videos in our elementary school classes. He has a great way of explaining something in simple terms and this is no different today. The attached link is a video that has clips from Bill Nye's episode on magnetism. Not only does Bill reference the north and south pole, as we discussed in class, but also talks about what kinds of things have magnets in them. I personally think it was very helpful to hear about magnetism in the simplest terms. I hope it works for you all as well.

I thought this video was particularly helpful because it was in such simple terms. It didn’t go into large detail about Magnetism but it gave us the groundwork that will be useful when learning the concepts in more depth. It is actually the same source I used! One thing I found particularly interesting about the video was the example with paper clips sticking to the magnet. Although this video didn’t explain why the paperclips stuck to the magnet, it was cool to understand the concept without the video’s explanation. I felt almost like a physicist.

  2. I really liked how this video took us back to the basics to lay the ground work before we progress into harder concepts. It was particularly helpful when he explained how when a magnet breaks in half there are two smaller magnets using cars. I video was very similar to yours because it explained relatively simple concepts. One thing that was diifferent is mine went a step further with the knowlege we know about magnets and applied that knowledge to understanding how roller coasters work. One thing i wish that you had done was use the knowledge we found out from this video and use it to explain other concepts we learned.
